A client once told me that Churchill's saved his business relationship. He missed a meeting with a prospective client for the second time and knew that his mistake would be perceived as disrespectful.
He sent a box of Churchill's sweets with a written apology. The client was so impressed that he agreed to a third meeting, saying "usually I get an email with an apology. This is the first time someone took an extra step!" It was a token but made a lasting impression. The relationship is alive and well today.
